On March 16, 2010 the Pervomay district court of Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) conditionally sentenced Alikbek Djekshenkulov, the former Foreign Minister, for 5 years of jail with 3-year probation term. Alikbek Djekshenkulov is found guilty in abuse of position in allocation of the grant, provided for the repairs in the office of Foreign Affairs. The charge against Djekshenkulov on co-participation in the murder of Turkish businessman in December of 2007 was dismissed due to the lack of evidentiary support. Earlier, the prosecutors claimed that the businessman was shot dead from the award weapon, owned by Djekshenkulov.

After the court’s verdict Alikbek Djekshenkulov is disabled to hold the positions in the government within the next three years.

Alikbek Djekshenkulov is one of the opposition leaders; his supporters already stated that the prosecution of the ex-Minister was politically motivated.

Djekshenkulov was arrested in March, 2009, but 6 months later he was released on home arrest condition.
