Kyrgyzstan: The Ata-Meken party demands the resignation of President Kurmanbek Bakiev and his son Maxim

The party officially commented the recent events and, specifically, the scandalous warrant for arrest of the financial expert Eugene Gourevitch, cooperating with the President’s son, sale of strategic state enterprises such as Kyrgyztelecom and Severelectro.
The Ata-Meken party website indicates that the state lobbied private interests, damaging national interests, and created the conditions when private company makes huge profits at the expense of impoverished population.
"Such people as Gourevitch and Nadel are trusted to manage the assets of Social Fund, Kyrgyzaltyn state concern, government’s stake in Kumtor, Kyrgyztelecom assets with total value of over 0.5 billion US dollars that were sold for very little price to unknown, newly established consortium of legal entities from Kazakhstan, Cyprus, where Kyrgyzstan was represented by Too keni water users association, headed by Gourevitch’s person. The list of potential companies, willing to buy Kyrgyztelecom, included enterprises from Russia, Germany, Turkey that made name in the world telecommunications market and that have own funds for development. However, such people as Gourevitch and Nadel are obviously affected by tribalism, clan rule if Kyrgyztelecom is sold to affiliated party", the Ata-Meken statement indicates.
Commenting the warrant, issued by Italian court, for the arrest of Eugene Gourevitch, the financial consultant of Bakiev’s family, the Ata-Meken party believes this is the nature of Bakiev’s state management reform. "However, the managers, highly valued by the family here in Kyrgyzstan, are wanted in Italy. This is the difference between Bakiev’s family and law enforcement bodies in EU and entire world", the statement notes.
In this concern, the Ata-Meken party puts in the number of radical claims: Eugene Gourevitch must be arrested and interrogated together with Italian police officers; Maxim Bakiev, high ranking official, holding the position, not mentioned in the Constitution (and, therefore, illegal), which discredited himself by suspicious financial and political projects must leave the office; the sale of strategic energy companies should be cancelled as the project, serving vested interests; Kurmanbek Bakiev, which made big mistake, causing multimillion damage to the state economy and undermining social stability, must resign early.
