Kyrgyzstan: Unknown armed group crossed the border from Tajikistan
In the night of October 14, the unknown group of armed people (admittedly, 8 people) entered Kyrgyz territory, the Batken Oblast of Kyrgyzstan, from Tajikistan.
On October 15, the border service of Kyrgyzstan disseminated press-release, saying that "on October 14, 2009, 11pm, the Kok-Tash border check point registered the intrusion of unknown people to the territory of Kyrgyz Republic. Preliminary information indicates that there were about 8 people".
Other sources report that when the border guards were trying to stop the lawbreakers unknown people opened fire and left the place. No border guard got injured.
Today, the Batken military unit is searching for the criminals.
NOTE:
The mentioned district of Batken Oblast of Kyrgyzstan, bordering the Republic of Tajikistan, is a part of heavily populated southern area of the Ferghana Valley. There are three Oblasts of Uzbekistan and some parts of oblasts of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. In 1999-2000 the Ferghana Valley was shocked by so-called "Batken events" – the number of armed conflicts between the militants of Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) and armed forces of Kyrgyz Republic. Coming from Tajikistan, IMU militants were trying to penetrate the territory of Uzbekistan through Kyrgyz Republic.
