It has been twenty years since tragic events, no one remembers today for some reason. In February of 1990 dozens of people were killed and hundreds were injured in the dispersal of the opposition forces in the Tajik capital. The bloody event in Dushanbe became the prologue of the multi-year and big civil war in Tajikistan – one of the most bloody military conflicts in the post-Soviet area that killed hundreds of thousands people. In February of 1990 the political and military conflict was initiated in Tajikistan that continued through June of 1997.

When it was to be run within the framework of Spirit of Fire film festival in Khanty-Mansiisk, organizers of the film festival got a call from the Kremlin. They were told in no uncertain terms that Russia 88 was to be left without the grand prix. The jury opted for a compromise then and gave Bardin's film a special award. Here is an interview with Pavel Bardin, author of the film that is bordering on being a taboo.

Ferghana.ru, one of the most popular independent sources for up-to-date news and analysis from Central Asia, launches Afisha – a comprehensive entertaining guide on Central Asia for the Russian audience, We’ve worked on this initiative for a while and now the time has come to launch it into the world. The xenophobia is growing in the Russian society. The indifference of the Russian ruling elite towards the neo-Nazis is shocking. Many associate Asia with the migrants they encounter those who don’t bother learning Russian, and the Chinese consumer goods. The image of Asia and the Asians is suffering badly and is looked upon with disdain. Our answer to this is No.

President Dmitry Medvedev's visit to Uzbekistan was ceremonial (no wonder, considering the highest possible status of the visit) and at the same time informal (when in Samarkand). The meeting did demonstrate exclusive nature of the Russian-Uzbek relations, just as organizers of the visit had intended. RIA-Novosti expert Sanobar Shermatova believes that the visit may be a prelude to revision of Moscow's whole policy in Central Asia.

According to Egemberdiyev, Kyrgyz media outlets promised help with promotion of the web site. This correspondent was repeatedly told at the presentation ceremony that families of the Gastarbeiters working in Russia will be able to communicate with "their" relatives via the web site from "any Internet-cafe in Kyrgyzstan."
