ANDIZHAN MURDERER

One of the inmates of Andizhan prison released in the course of the recent events there was a serial murderer. He is Mikhail Sakhnov (or Misha), born in 1958, registered at 3, 42b, 1st Housing Project. The first thing he did finding himself out of jail was murder his son.

Sakhnov's neighbors said that he had killed his first wife and spent 10 years behind the bars for the murder. When released, Sakhnov moved to Russia, married again, and murdered his wife. When imprisonment in a Russian jail was over, he returned to Andizhan. He married another woman, Natasha, and murdered her last fall. This time, Sakhnov was sentenced to death.

Sakhnov was waiting for execution when, on May 13, an armed mob took over the prison and set everyone free. Finding himself free again, Sakhnov went to his son Andrei, 23. He went there with another inmate.

The two ex-prisoners trussed Andrei up. Neighbors suspect that they demanded money. Sakhnov eventually stabbed Andrei in the side and in the face, killing the young man. That done, Sakhnov and his accomplice visited Sakhnov's former mistress. They took all her jewelry and savings and, the woman's daughter their hostage, demanded more money. The woman went to the nearest store where she pocketed a weight for spring scales, returned home, and hit Sakhnov's accomplice in the head. The accomplice chose to vacate the premises in a hurry, and Sakhnov followed suit. There is no information on their whereabouts at this point.
