New prison for civil servants was built in Tashkent
Press Center of the Initiative Group of Independent Human Rights Activists (Uzbekistan) reports with references to sources in the republican Interior Ministry that a new colony for convicted civil servants was built in the Yunus-Abad district of Tashkent (Gvardeiskaya mahallja).
The new penitentiary facility is located in a three-story building for 150 inmates.
The Uzbek human rights community believes that the new facility was built to isolate former high-ranking civil servants, ensure their security, and prevent leaks of whatever may constitute state secrets.
International standards of imprisonment were followed in construction of the building. Construction is practically complete.
