Felix Kulov: Kyrgyz opposition plans to start peaceful protest actions
Felix Kulov, the leader of Incorporated opposition front "For the worthy future of Kyrgyzstan", ex-prime-minister of Kyrgyzstan gave a press conference in his native settling of Bajtyk on Monday, April 23, IA 24.kg informs.
In Kulov’s opinion, operating authorities afford themselves a lot, which was not known during Askar Akaev’s rule, namely - reprisals against dissentients, suppression of freedom of speech, intimidation of opponents, arrests of oppositional newspapers’ circulations. "Such a regime has no right to existence", - Felix Kulov emphasizes.
As Incorporated opposition front’s leader points out, termless protest rally, organized by Incorporated front “For the worthy future of Kyrgyzstan" together with "For reforms!" movement, just started achieving declared objectives. "We were sure Kurmanbek Bakiev would go on reforms, and thus he started them. He brought the project on amendments to the Constitution, appointed Almazbek Atambaev the prime minister, thus starting giving away powers of his own free will, - Felix Kulov speaks. - Some people laughed at me, considering me as being a general, having something to grasp; in turn, I cited India as an example: this country released itself from colonization of the Great Britain peacefully. Hindus moved towards armed Englishmen overtly and the latter were compelled to lower hands.
"I was often asked, in case Kurmanbek Bakiev resigns, whether I am going to take the presidential post, - Felix Kulov marks. – My answer was that we would try reducing powers of the President because of exacerbation of regional division of Kyrgyzstan to the North and the South, provoked by the President. It is desirable we had the third President from the South". According to Kulov’s words, this conversation took place with members of "For reforms!" movement even before dispersal of demonstration. However earlier Kulov tried to not mention it.
Answering a request to comment on opposition splitting, in particular, quitting its rows of "For reforms!" movement, Felix Kulov answered: "We did not talk to members of the movement. I am not aware of their further plans in detail yet. The main point lies not in those who have quitted incorporated opposition, but in fact that people wish to achieve changes of system via legitimate elections", - Incorporated opposition front’s leader emphasizes.
He announced the opposition was inclined to start peaceful protest. Kulov stated that requirements of citizens will concern releasing Omurbek Suvanaliev and opposition leaders, detained by special services. In Felix Kulov’s words, after dispersal of peaceful demonstration authorities are in a kind of euphoria, though applying methods of intimidating opponents. "Everybody perfectly knows today such bodies as pocket courts, State Prosecutor office and all power structures play on Kurmanbek Bakiev’s side. Any ridiculous and illegal decree is carried out by them carelessly ", - Felix Kulov marks.
Besides, according to ex-prime-minister, participants of demonstration, dispersed on April 19, intend to address the court with claims against Kyrgyz law enforcement bodies. According to the data available with Incorporated opposition front, about three hundred people brought complaints at wrongful actions of law enforcement bodies, in particular, beatings, disappearance of property, left in yurts: phones, money and other things. Incorporated front renders them legal aid. It is supposed that claims will be submitted in address of Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan within the next few days.
Incorporated opposition front’s leader expressed concern, that after dispersal of demonstration on April 19 authorities could refuse constitutional reform. And also they might initiate a referendum on declaration of presidential republic.
According to Kulov’s words, people who address him, insist on carrying out mass protest actions. "Citizens are very strained, - he emphasizes. - Our task is to calm them down and the most important - to prevent splitting of Kyrgyzstan into the North and the South, provoked by Kurmanbek Bakiev. I consider detention of people to be irresponsible decision. In case authorities do not stop acting like this, it could lead to spontaneous protests, and I will not be able to keep the situation under control any more".
"Some citizens who addressed me for support after dispersal of the meeting on April 19, declared they were ready to act like shakhids against some representatives of authority”, - Felix Kulov informed. - I was shocked. It was necessary to call the imam to dissuade them from it, to convince that way was impossible. Unfortunately we can witness such feelings of people”.
According to Bakiev, about 500 people addressed him for support. A part of them temporarily lives in the settling of Bajtyk now, the others have gone home.
Felix Kulov expressed hope that all the same opposition could compel Kyrgyz authorities to initiate constitutional reforms by peaceful means. Forceful way was unacceptable, he stated.
