The third companion of Ryspek Akmatbayev and the second defendant in the criminal case against Akmatbayev and others was murdered in the capital of Kyrgyzstan. The body of Colonel Murat Djumagulov, ex-officer of the Main Directorate of the Criminal Police of the republican Interior Ministry, was discovered with five gunshot wounds on March 10. Djumagulov was rushed to the hospital but died there.

Charges against Djumagulov included establishment of a conspiracy with the gang of Akmatbayev (believed a mobster by many), kidnappings, and illegal possession of lethal weapons.

Other defendants in the case included Mirlan and Nurlan Konoyevs, Erkinbek Mambetaliyev, Chinarbek Kojaliyev, and Damir Sejitpekov. The latter was murdered in the village of Kurdai on February 28.

The Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek acquitted the defendants under more than ten articles of the Criminal Code on January 24. The prosecution challenged the verdict and had the materials turned over to the Bishkek Municipal Court. Its first meeting was scheduled for March 15.

Akmatbayev's other companion of old, Adis Kulmanbetov wanted by the police for multiple murder since 2001, was shot in central Bishkek on March 1.
